Liahna Gordon, Board President
As the child of an interfaith couple, raised with only the most basic knowledge of Jewish
traditions, I have often felt out of place in other Jewish congregations. At the Havurah, I
can honor both sides of my family without having to check half of my identity at the door.
Sue Steiner, Vice President
I was lucky enough to find the Havurah soon after moving to Chico. I have found
wonderful people and a great sense of community, in addition to finding a spiritual home
and a way to give back to the community.

The Havurah is my home! I like the open, accepting community and its diverse
members.

The Havurah is like my extended family. I don’t have any family in Chico, but at the
Havurah I get to spend time with people I enjoy, and plan fun events and holiday
celebrations. My kids are excited about being Jewish, and the Havurah has played a
big part in that.
Jo Lillis, Board Member
I was encouraged to learn about the Havurah by a couple of Quaker friends who
were attending Havurah events. Very soon after I attended a service, and was very
much taken by the friendly tone of the members. At about the same time I became
aware of the Havurah Torah [rescued from the Holocaust]. That did it!! I was
committed to the Havurah and continue to relish my Havurah connection.
